At least 2,955 young Filipinos have availed of the assistance and support for their agribusiness proposals under the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) Youth Farmers’ Challenge (YFC) in line with the Marcos administration’s food security agenda. Young students pledge to be “RICEponsible”

Sixth grade students from the Raya School Fairview pledged to be “RICEponsible” or to consume rice responsibly during the 20th Ceremonial Rice Harvesting at Rizal Park on November 11, 2022. The event, which was hosted by the Department of Agriculture (DA)-Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) and National Rice Program, is part of the 2022 National Rice Awareness Month (NRAM) celebration to raise rice awareness, promote better health, and support local farmers, among others. Twenty-two young agripreneurs from the National Capital Region (NCR) were bestowed recognition during the Provincial Level awarding of the Young Farmers Challenge (YFC) Program on August 31, 2022. The honorees are the geniuses behind 11 enterprises that won as Provincial winners of the Young Farmers Challenge. The winners qualify for the regional level competition. Now in its second run, the YFC is a competitive financial grant program by the Department for Filipino youth—whether individual or group—who are aspiring to pursue profitable and sustainable agri-fishery enterprises.
