More price hikes to hit supermarket shoppers

The price hikes hitting Japanese consumers show no signs of abating. One supermarket in Tokyo is planning more price hikes from October.

The retailer in Koto Ward has raised prices for about half of the products in the store since spring, including essentials such as noodles, bread, and cooking oil.

The manager says he has had to put up prices almost every day for the past six months. He also says that from next month, suppliers plan to start raising prices for around 400 items, including mayonnaise and vinegar.

One shopper in her sixties said that she is trying to make ends meet by using her air conditioner less often and having fewer side dishes.
