兵庫県が飼養するスリック牛。６カ月齢時点では、毛の長さに大きな違いは見られないという（県提供）乳量減少幅は３分の１ 受胎率向上も期待 地球温暖化の影響で夏場の暑さが厳しさを増す中、毛が短くて高温に強い乳用牛「スリック・ホルスタイン」の導入に動く産地が増えている。行政や民間の研究機関が試験導入し、乳量や乳質、種付け時の受胎率を調べる研究を進める。夏場の乳量の落ち込み幅が３分の１に抑えられるとの報告もあり、酪農経営の改善につながる可能性がある。（北坂公紀） 乳用牛の暑さ対策は現在、送風機やミスト（細霧）冷房など畜舎環境の改善が中心だ。ただ、近年はこうした対策では限界があり、乳量の落ち込みや受胎率の低下が課題。こうした中で牛そのものを変える対策がスリック牛だ。２０２１年に精液の一般販売が始まった。精液は、海外の種雄牛から採取し輸入される。 兵庫県は２３年度、スリック牛の導入に向け実証試験に乗り出す。２７年度までの５年間で、乳量や乳質、種付け時の受胎率などを調べる。県所有の乳用牛に種付けし、毎年４頭程度のスリック牛を産ませて試験に用いる。 県の試算によると、搾乳牛５０頭の経営の場合、全てスリック牛に置き換えることで夏季（７～９月）の生乳の売上高は約５％（約８０万円）増える。県内では、夏季は乳量が７％落ち込むという。海外の研究結果に基づき、この落ち込み幅が３分の１に抑えられると仮定して試算した。 県立農林水産技術総合センター淡路農業技術センターの石川翔主任研究員は「スリック牛は乳量に加え、受胎率の改善も期待される。精液の価格も一般的なものと変わらず、酪農家の経営改善につながる」と期待を寄せる。 現状、国内で一般販売されている精液は、産子の半分しかスリック牛にならないのが課題だ。ただ、精液を輸入する野澤組（東京都千代田区）は「将来的には、全ての産子がスリック牛になる精液が販売される」とみる。 国内の生乳生産の半分以上を占める北海道では、ホクレンとジェネティクス北海道が調査を進める。ジェネティクス北海道は「夏場の暑さが厳しさを増す中、乳用牛の暑さ対策は喫緊の課題。スリック牛は有用な選択肢の一つだ」と強調する。 ＜ことば＞ スリック・ホルスタイン 「スリック遺伝子」と呼ばれる、体毛が短くなる遺伝子を持つホルスタインの一種。一般的なホルスタインよりも暑さに強い。同遺伝子は元々、南米の熱帯地域の在来牛が持っていた。交配によってホルスタインに導入された。 引用：https://www.agrinews.co.jp/news/index/137748
